ROCKFORD (WIFR) – There’s been a major improvement to Rockford’s para-transit system. Disabled passengers have had to give RMTD 24-hours’ notice if they needed a ride. Now, they'll’ll only need three hours. The same day service is designed to make it easier for them to schedule and attend last minute doctor’s appointments and pick up prescriptions. We talked with a local mom and caregiver who says it’s a much more realistic approach since hardly anyone gets 24-hours’ notice they’re going to be sick.
"It is a great relief. Even if we sometimes have to wait an hour, it is a great relief that I don't have to worry about it,” said Joyce Reiland.
The added convenience comes with an added price. Fares are going up a buck to $4.00 per trip. Anyone who's disabled in Rockford, Loves Park or Machesney Park can call for a ride.
