ROCKFORD (WIFR) – An idea by a Rockford boy has led to over one ton of school supplies ready to be handed to low-income students this fall.
Rockford MELD says a 12-year-old started collecting used school supplies as part of his youth group at church three years ago.
He asked local schools to have collection boxes ready before school lets out for the summer. This year, that comes to over 1,700 pounds of supplies that is now being given to several local non-profits.
