ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- To foster understanding & appreciation of the many faiths in the Rockford area, an Open Houses of Worship Day will be held this Sunday, September 29th from 2 to 5 pm. at several area churches.
The schedule of events is as follows:
• 2 p.m. – Wat Phothikaram; Lao Buddhist Temple 6925 S. Mulford Road (just south of Kishwaukee River Forest Preserve). The Venerable Khamphay Sithivong – 815/997-3018
• 3:10 pm at the Muslim Community Center, 5921 Darlene Dr, just south and west of Harrison and South Mulford. Imam Shpendim Nadzaku – 815/397-3311
• 4:10p.m. Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 N Court Street in downtown Rockford. The Reverend Calvin Culpepper – 815/962-6061
Those taking part will first visit the Wat Phothikaram Temple, which is the largest Lao Buddhist Temple in the region.
Next will be a stop at the Muslim Community Center where the Imam will give the group a tour of the new Mosque as well as present the basic tenets of Islam.
The last stop will be Court Street United Methodist Church where Reverend Calvin Culpepper will share the history of Methodism and give a tour of one of the largest United Methodist Churches in the area.
Individuals or groups are welcome. People are encouraged to carpool or travel in their own vehicles.
