UPDATE: Police Release the Name of Victim of Single-Vehicle Accident

UPDATE -- Police have released the name of the man killed during a single vehicle accident Sunday morning.

Rockford Police say 21-year-old Derrick Ellis was in the back seat of a car that hit a tree in the 500 block of Summit in Rockford around 2 A.M. Sunday. Another passenger who was in the front seat is in serious condition, but officers say his condition is not life threatening. The driver was 20-year-old Martel Ford. He now faces a number of charges including driving under the influence of drugs, aggravated DUI involving death and underage drinking.


ROCKFORD (WIFR) – One person is dead, another under arrested after a deadly car accident early Sunday morning.

Rockford Police say around 2:15am a gray Chevy Impala hit a tree in the 500 block of Summit St. Three people were in the car, the passenger in the back seat died on impact.

Officers say the driver has been arrested, but have not said what the person is charged with.

The accident remains under investigation.
