ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Nursing home workers are ready to hit the picket lines, as the service employees international union or SEIU has workers protesting at several nursing homes statewide.
Local workers held their picket line at Alden Debes Nursing Home. They are fighting for a better contract with the Illinois Nursing Home Association. Both groups have been in talks for weeks, but workers say the association will only give a small raise if they give up their holiday pay. Brittany Damish says there's not enough workers.
"There's a higher turnaround rate so all the good CNA's leave here to go somehwere better that pays more so we're stuck with whatever's left. it's hard to keep good CNA's when the pay isn't right," said CNA Brittany Damish.
Union representatives will meet with the Illinois Nursing Home Association tomorrow. Workers say if they do not reach an agreement. They are planning to strike.
