ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A little rain didn’t stop construction workers from digging at North Main and Auburn. Today crews narrowed all lanes to just 11 feet, meaning we can’t make any turns in the intersection. It’s going to be that way until the roundabout is complete. The City of Rockford hopes to wrap things up by mid-October.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Below is a press release from the City of Rockford regarding the North Main & Auburn Street Roundabout Project Road Closures:
On Tuesday, April 23rd, all lanes at the North Main Street and Auburn Street intersection will be narrowed to a width of 11 feet. At the same time, King Street and Myott Street at the North Main intersection will be closed. No access to or from North Main will be permitted from those streets.
Left turns will not be permitted at the North Main and Auburn Street intersection during this period due to the configuration of temporary traffic signals that replace the existing signals during construction. Message boards are installed warning motorists of the narrowing travel lanes and turn restrictions.
Various utility and demolition work is underway. Drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes during the project construction. Drivers are also reminded to obey work zone speed limits and to stay alert for workers, when driving through the construction zone.
The City of Rockford appreciates your patience and cooperation during this project.
Questions regarding this project should be directed to Jamie Rott in the Public Works Department at (815) 967-6742. Thank you for your patience and consideration.
