ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Local hospitals have been using products from a Massachusetts drug company which has been linked to a deadly meningitis outbreak nationwide, but doctors tell us we can breathe easy.
Medication from the New England compounding center has been linked to the recent outbreak across the nation. More than 300 cases of meningitis have been reported, and 23 people have died. OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center bought two types of drugs from the company, including a numbing cream. Director of Pharmacy, Jim Jansen says neither of them were infected.
"Topical creams, ointments, those types of dosage forms were not viewed to be implicated in having fungal contamination,” said Jansen.
KSB Hospital tells us they also use products from the company, but not the injectable drug linked to meningitis.
