ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Driving through downtown Rockford you may have noticed nothing but an empty space where Paragon restaurant once stood. That won't be the case for long. A new bar and grill is ready to set up shop in the location bringing a new vibe to the Forest City.
The restaurant’s general manager Todd Silberhorn says, "The new location downtown is going to be a destination for Rockfordians and other people. Locals and imports to come to something that really isn't in the area at this time. It's going to be an upscale warehouse feel."
June first will mark the grand opening for the yet to be named restaurant at 205 West State Street. Before the food can be served, they need to find a staff, which they plan to hire through a job fair on May 8th and 9th at the bar and grill.
"People are more than welcome to stop out and let us know their interests, bring resumes. For that alone, we're going to be bringing in another 60 positions in the service industry so we're very excited on that front”, says the restaurant’s PR manager Betsy Lopez.
The name of the new restaurant is being left up to us, the public. By logging on to Facebook and checking out RBI Bar and Grill’s profile, you can vote on one of the nine names being considered for the downtown spot that management says they can't wait to open.
"The downtown excitement and energy from that building is incredible. We're looking forward to being able to help the community downtown and also serve the community downtown and be a part of it”, says Silberhorn.
Management for the new bar and grill say they have plenty of events lined up when the restaurant opens, both music and comedy acts. Kicking it off for their grand opening will be Miles Nielsen, son of Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The job search may become more difficult in the next few months as the labor department says fewer states are adding to the payroll.
Here in Rockford, the owners of three local bars are turning to the community to add 60 positions to their newest downtown establishment.
Since 2008, the space that previously held Paragon Restaurant in downtown Rockford has sat vacant, but that won't be the case for long. Two local bar and grill owners are ready to spice up the location and provide a jolt to the Stateline job market.
60 new jobs will be created through the yet to be named bar and grill in downtown Rockford. The plan is for those hires to be made on May 8th and May 9th during a job fair. Two sessions will be held each of those days at 11 am and 6 pm at the 205 West State Street location with all positions except for management to be hired at the event.
Restaurant PR Manager Betsy Lopez said, "People are more than welcome to stop out and let us know of their interests, bring in their resumes. Right now there's a really big push and we're trying to get everything done inside so we're very excited on that front."
