STATELINE (WIFR) -- It's not a new trend, but many people are vowing to get fit for the new year.

It's one of many resolutions experts say people make but don't follow through on. But those experts say it's not because people are lazy and don't have the will power, they say it's because of a lack of a clear plan moving forward.

Kevin Polky is a councilor in Rockford and says setting long term goals requires creating detailed long term plans.

Local gyms say people who sign up right around the new year usually stick to their fitness goals for a couple months at most and then fizzle out.
