SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- A new license plate in Illinois to raise money for childhood cancer research will go into production if at least 1,500 orders are made.

The design for the specialty license plate was unveiled Thursday in Springfield. It features a gold ribbon to symbolize childhood cancer awareness with colorful letters spelling out "Curing Childhood Cancer."

The $50 fee will go toward the Children's Oncology Group and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which operates a clinic in Peoria.

Jennifer Pramuk of Decatur came up with the license plate idea after her daughter, Zoe, was treated successfully at southern Illinois pediatric oncology clinic.

The specialty license plates can be ordered on the Secretary of State's website.
