ILLINOIS (WIFR) -- It's official, Democrats now have a supermajority in the Illinois legislature, but it still remains to be seen if that means progress will made on a variety of issues.
This morning new legislators were sworn in at the University of Illinois Springfield. The biggest change in our area is the addition of a second state senator. Former newsman and democrat Steve Stadelman will join Republican Dave Syverson.
Party leadership will stay the same, though house speaker Michael Madigan says he's hopeful more will get done this time around. Today he told incoming freshman Illinois’ pension crisis remains the most serious problem lawmakers face.
