ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- If you had a few too many chocolates over the weekend while celebrating Valentine’s Day some say don't worry. There's a new diet that tells us to eat chocolate and chase it with a glass of wine.
The Sirtfood Diet is gaining popularity. It ups our intake of certain proteins call sirtuins which increase metabolism. Foods that also make up the diet include apples, citrus fruits, parsley, blueberries, olive oil, and coffee.
Meanwhile an Australian man says he lost 22 pounds in just six days by eating nothing but potatoes. He'll use spices but no oil.
While we may lose weight quickly on both these new fad diets dieticians say they're not sustainable and they're not healthy.
“This potato diet, that's not healthy, all he's eating is carbs which aren't bad, but he's not getting any protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants they're not getting from other fruits and vegetables," Molly Sleger, a Registered Dietician at SwedishAmerican Hospital said.
Sleger suggests we eat three meals a day, drink mostly water, get a serving of fruits and vegetables, and she says don't eat between meals.
