New Embry-Riddle Satellite Campus Opens in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A couple years ago the push was on for Rockford to be the site for a third Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Campus. That dream fizzled when Embry Riddle decided to put it's third campus idea on hold.

But two major developments this week put's Embry Riddle back on the Forest City's map. On Monday a District 205 committee approved the idea of an Embry Riddle career academy which would begin in 2014 at Jefferson High School. If it passes the full board Rockford would become just the sixth school district in the nation to have an ERAU Career Academy. Also this week classes started at Embry Riddle's brand new and much bigger satellite campus location near Bell School Road and East State. The success of these two initiatives could put Rockford in a great position if Embry Riddle does ever explore the idea of a third campus in the future.
