MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- Machesney Park is moving forward with a multi-million dollar project, that could mean dozens of new jobs in our area.
"You're going to see light to medium manufacturing, office buildings, potentially a hotel. you could see restaurants you could see gas stations," said Greg Anderson, Community Development Coordinator.
Just a few of the ideas for this 200 acre plot at the corner of 173 and Lyford road, near I-90. Community Development Coordinator Greg Anderson says the village wants to construct a $2 million dollar, 150 thousand square foot building. It would house offices and space for multiple manufacturing companies. Anderson says two nationally known businesses have already signed on with the project, including a pool service supplier and light company, which are expected to bring in 70 new positions. Tammie Shearer says she hopes to see more restaurants.
"I’d like another sit down restaurant something that’s different from the fast food chains not another Chili’s or Applebee’s. maybe a steakhouse, go in order a meal, get a steak, we don’t have to drive clear on US 20 on East State Street,” said Shearer.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is funding the project. Construction is expected to start as soon as next month.
