STATELINE (WIFR) – Local authorities are hoping for fewer accidents in construction zones this year.
This week is national work zone awareness week. The Illinois department of transportation and Illinois State Police are partnering to make sure we’re on the lookout for construction workers. Don’t forget, it’s illegal to use your cell phone at all in construction zones.
"And that's 24/7 even if there's no workers in the area. You're not allowed to be on your cell phone, you're not allowed to text while you're driving period, but you're really not allowed to do it in a work zone,” said. Pat O’Brien with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Also, remember construction zone or not, you’ve got to move over if you see an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of the road.
