POPLAR GROVE (WIFR) -- Teachers could soon be walking the picket line in the North Boone School District. The union is set to announce a strike date on Monday.
Members of the North Boone Education Association will gather outside the district office before Monday night's school board meeting. That is when they'll announce a strike date.
This comes before two bargaining sessions set for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. We spoke with the school board president at the last bargaining session, who is hoping to prevent a strike.
"We're working real hard to avoid any strike. We're working very hard, we're meeting with the rest of our team to come up with a proposal that will hopefully get passed and hopefully that avoids any need for a strike," said Don Ward.
According to state law, the soonest teachers could strike is Thursday, February 27th. That date will be two weeks since final contract offers were made public.
Teachers will rally at 6 p.m. Monday. The school board meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
