DIXON (AP) -- A first-degree murder charge filed against a Dixon man in the death of his baby daughter was dropped because of a technicality.
36-year-old Charles T. George is now charged with four counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated domestic battery of a child.
Lee County prosecutors accuse George of killing the 3-month-old baby girl in September 2010. They say she suffered skull and rib fractures while being shaken by George.
State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller says due to "speedy trial" rules, the state can't prosecute George on the murder charge because it was added to his indictment more than 120 days after his demand for a speedy trial.
George is being held in lieu of $1 million in the Lee County Jail.
