Motorcycle Groups Join Forces to Help Families of Fallen Heroes

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Hundreds of bikers cruise around the Stateline on Saturday to raise money for families of fallen fire fighters and police officers. This is the second time three local motorcycle clubs have come together for the Guns and Axes Benefit Ride.

The group of about 200 motorcycles rode from the Boone County Fairgrounds up to Rockton, then to New Milford before ending the day at Kegel's in Rockford.

Their goal was to raise $10,000 to help families of fire fighters and police officers who have died in the line of duty in northern Illinois.

"These people do good work, they're fire fighters, they're policemen, they're first responders and they do good work, it's all about giving back. They do remarkable work for us, you should do something a little more for them than pay your taxes," Bob Nelson, a local motorcyclist, said.

The money raised will stay within the five counties in northern Illinois.
