WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) – The family of a Winnebago County woman killed in a drunk driving accident more than two years ago may soon get the closure they’ve been waiting for.
As we go to and from holiday parties this month, Angela Schaffer’s mom wants to remind us not to drink and drive. Gail Hill and her family still don’t have closure nearly two years after her daughter’s death.
29-year-old Angela Schaffer died in a fiery crash December 16, 2011 near Durand. Police say Schaffer’s boyfriend, Andrew Edgar was driving drunk when his car hit some utility poles, rolled, then caught on fire. Schaffer was trapped in the car as it burned. Edgar is charged with aggravated DUI causing death and reckless homicide. Hill says she can’t get any closure until the case actually goes to trial.
Hill says she’s upset the case has been dragged out for so long. She says defense attorneys have been trying to prove Edgar wasn’t driving the car. They’ll be back in court January 16th.
Hill says prosecutors told her the case will likely go to trial in either February or March.
