Morrissey Talks Pension Reform at the Annual Mayor's Business Luncheon

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey told Rockford business leaders that the single biggest reason for the city's escalating tax rate is covering fire and police pensions. He says despite a year of lobbying nothing has been done in Springfield to help alleviate the burden.

Morrisey told the 400 business leaders at the Annual Mayors Business Luncheon. That the city must organize a collective voice to do a better job of bringing the pension issue to light both in Springfield and in Rockford.

The mayor also stressed that in this global environment, Rockford business leaders need to ask ourselves if the Forest City is doing everything it can to meet the challenge of being a world class competitive community.
