Monroe Clinic Displays The Saint John’s Bible

MONROE (WIFR) -– Monroe Clinic is exhibiting two volumes of the Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible. The volumes are on loan from their sponsorship ministry, the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes. The book of Wisdom and the book of Pentateuch are on display until May 29 in the hospital lobby. The public is invited to see and touch the books every Wednesday, 1-5 p.m., and one Sunday, May 5, 1-3 p.m. Groups can also make appointments by calling 877-865-1462.

The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten, illuminated Bible commissioned since the advent of the printing press. It was commissioned in 1998 by the Benedictine monks of Saint John’s Abbey and University.

These beautiful editions are full-size fine art reproductions of the original masterpiece. Each volume is approximately 2 feet tall by 3 feet wide when open and weighs about 20 pounds. The series took 14 years to complete.

A truly amazing work, it was created by a team of scribes, artists and craftspeople under the artistic direction of Donald Jackson. Jackson is one of the world’s foremost calligraphers and the Scribe to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Crown Office at the House of Lords in London, England. Both volumes are signed and numbered by Jackson.
