ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Families are invited to downtown Rockford this holiday season for celebration that even the Grinch would smile about.
The “Merry and Bright” Holiday Celebration will provide neighbors with holiday themed activities from November to the end of the year. It kicks off November 30th with the "Stroll on the State".
Families will walk from city hall across the river for the lighting of the city’s 30 foot evergreen tree. Kids can meet Santa and his reindeer while parents can shop at a special holiday market.
Volunteers from Heartland Community Church will decorate downtown and create a winter wonderland.
“As a community, we need opportunities to believe in ourselves again. I think this is one of those events that do that and be able to create a nostalgic moment downtown for families and singles and friends to be able to come and enjoy the Christmas holiday," says Josh Peigh, lead pastor at Heartland Community Church.
