ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Medicare open enrollment is underway and a local lawmaker wants to make sure seniors get their questions, answered.
On Tuesday Congresswoman Cheri Busots stopped by the Brightside Adult Day Service in Rockford to meet with staff and talk with seniors about their current medicare options.
Open enrollment gives seniors the option to change their current medicare plan or sign up for coverage in 2014.
Congresswoman Bustos says the number one question she has been getting does the Affordable Care Act, also known as, Obamacare impact medicare.
"Its very important for seniors to understand that the Affordable Care Act and medicare are two totally separate programs. If your on medicare right now you can take a look at what's available right now through the open enrollment. Totally separate the Affordable Care Act does not impact medicare patients," Bustos said.
The deadline to enroll for medicare is December 7, 2013.
