Many Churches Cancel Sunday Services Due to Snow

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The snow was just too much for some people to safely leave home, so many churches cancelled services today.

Others did stay open though. This being an important weekend in the liturgical year: The last Sunday before Christmas. Many churches, Court Street United Methodist Church being one of them, had Christmas pageants on Sunday.

Church leaders say although numbers were down, it was important to still give people the chance to worship.

"We decided we were going to hold it anyway and we trusted people to use their own judgment to come. If they didn't feel like coming our prayers were with them. We prayed for them this morning when we were here," Co-Church Administrator at Court Street United Methodist Church, Lorelle Wendell, said.
