ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A Rockford man accused of driving drunk and causing a deadly car crash is heading to prison.
27-year-old Jonathan Rios Barrios (aka Pedro Ramos) was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years for aggravated DUI and for lying to police.
The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Offices say Barrios caused the crash on Forest Hills and River Lane in Loves Park back on December 16, 2012. Witnesses say he ran a red light, crashing into 73-year-old William Neal, killing him and injuring his wife. After the crash, police found Barrios in a gas station bathroom trying to clean blood off himself. That’s when he was arrested and gave police a fake name, birthdate and driver’s license.
Barrios must serve 85% of his sentence.
