Man Sentenced for 2011 and 2012 Crimes

UPDATE: BELOIT (WIFR) -- On Friday, March 15th, Edward Cox was senteced to 35 years in prison followed by 20 years of supervision by the Department of Corrections.

Cox was sentenced for crimes committed in December of 2011 and January 2012.

BELOIT (WIFR) -- On January 10, 2012, at about 9:55 p.m., a Beloit Patrol Officer stopped and identified a white male suspect that was walking in the area of Park Av. and Eclipse Blvd. The Officer recognized that the individual matched the description of the suspect from the 12/05/11 incident. The suspect was identified by his Arkansas ID as Edward D. Cox, 11/18/1975.

As the Officer was approaching Cox, a witness advised that Cox had just been chasing a female on foot. Cox was in possession of a large knife and was taken into custody for Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Within moments, the female victim reported from a near-by business that Cox had just attempted to rob her of her purse while threatening her with a knife. Cox was then taken into custody for Attempted Armed Robbery.

A Detective interviewed Cox in regards to the 12/05/2011 incident. Cox implicated himself in this incident and was subsequently arrested. In this incident, Cox had robbed a woman and her son at knife point of their cash and cell phones. Cox then sexually assaulted the mother. This
occurred inside the Excalibur Laundry Mat, 1649 Park Av. Cox recently moved from Marble Falls, AR to Beloit and provided 1310 ½ Copeland Av. as his address.

Cox is being held in custody at the Rock County Jail on the following charges:

12/05/2011 incident: Armed Robbery (2 counts) – 943.32(2)
1st Degree Sexual Assault – 940.225(1)(b)

01/10/2012 incident:
Attempted Armed Robbery – 943.32(2) / 939.32
