UPDATE: 21-year-old Jeremy Clarke has pleaded guilty to retail theft. Burglary charges against Clarke were dismissed.
Clarke has been sentenced to 24 months in prison.
The case against James Gallagher is still pending.
WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- Two Stateline men have been accused of burglarizing the property of a murder victim.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department says 18-year-old James Gallagher and 21-year-old Jeremy Clarke broke into a storage shed in the 1400 block of LaBelle Avenue. You may remember, that’s the same address where 47-year-old William Presley was found shot to death about a month ago. At this point, Sheriff’s Deputies say there’s no indication the burglaries and the murder are connected.
UPDATE: RELEASE FROM SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT:
On Sunday March 24, 2013 47-year-old William S. Presley was found shot to death in the
garage of his residence at 1421 LaBelle Ave.
No arrest has been made on this case and it is still under active investigation by
Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detectives.

William Presley owned a large storage shed at the rear of his property with an address
of 1420 Blue Ridge. It was determined that sometime after the murder of Presley the
shed had been burglarized.
Investigation into the burglary by Sheriff’s Detectives has led to the arrests of two
Rockford residents. Both are charged with Burglary. Property has been recovered.
At this point in the investigation there is no indication that the murder and burglary are
- James M. Gallagher, 18 years old
- Jeremy O. Clarke, 21 years old
UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Right now detectives are rummaging through a west-side home, trying to find evidence that may lead them to a Rockford man’s killer. Police say the victim was found shot to death in his garage Sunday night.
The victim has been identified as 47-year-old William Presley and also goes by the name “Sammy”. A relative found him just after 5:00 Sunday night, at a home on Labelle Avenue. Detectives are interviewing his friends and family trying to figure out if Presley was targeted. Right now, no suspects are in custody.
" People need to be concerned anytime there is a violent crime in their neighborhood. it's premature to say whether this is a random act. what's fair to say that a majority of the time it's not,” said Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro.
The home is still considered an active crime scene.
UPDATE: WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- We now know the name of the Rockford man found shot to death Sunday night inside his garage near Auburn High School. The Winnebago County Coroner's Office says he's William Presley, 47.
The shooting happened just after 5:00 p.m. Sunday night at a home on the 1400 block of Labelle Avenue. Someone called 9-1-1 after finding the victim. Presley was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:20 p.m.
An autopsy will be performed on Presley later today. Toxicological test will be available in about two week.
Rockford police say no arrests have been made
RELEASE FROM SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT:
On Sunday March 24, 2013 Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to 1421 Labelle Ave Rockford, Illinois in reference to a person dead in the garage.
Deputies arrived on the scene and entered the garage and found the body of a male in his late 40’s, deceased. He had gunshot wounds, and is the victim of an apparent homicide.
His identity will be released by the Coroner’s office once notification to relatives has been made. An autopsy will be conducted.
No arrest has been made and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating.
