ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- There are new developments in recent fatal hit and run accident. Rockford police arrested the man they say left a local father to die on the side of the road.

The family is devastated by the loss of Brent and, although they are relieved someone is in custody, they say it will not bring him back.

25-year-old Amjed Al-Sadun made his first court appearance this afternoon. Keep in mind, this was also the first time Busby's family had a chance to see the man police believe is responsible for their loved one's death.

Investigators say the suspect left the 36-year-old to die after a motorcycle accident involving his girlfriend’s car near South Main Street and Marchesano on Septemeber 9th. Police say Busby was under the influence and was not wearing a helmet during the crash. His family says he was lying on the side of the road by himself, before a woman stopped to help.

"He just left him there and that is the most frustrating thing. Five minutes could have changed something and maybe if the guy never left, my brother may still be here," said Cheri Ward, the victim’s sister.

Family members stress that Brent was at a poker run earlier in the night, but not at the time of the crash. The event ended at around 6:30 p.m. while the crash happened at around 2:00 a.m. They also say this is the first time they have ever heard of Brent riding his bike without a helmet, they were told that it could have saved his life.

The suspect is charged with failure to report an accident involving death after leaving the scene. He's also charged with driving on a revoked license. Police say they tracked down pieces from the scene to find the suspect.
