ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A Rockford man is in jail tonight after he was arrested for allegedly trying to rob a west-side gas station.

Police say 22-year-old Michael Ellzy walked into the BP on Auburn Street around noon, pointed a gun at the clerk, and demanded money. Police say he pistol-whipped the clerk during the struggle but left without getting money.

Police took Ellzy into custody near the gas station. The clerk is expected to be okay.
