ELGIN (WIFR) -- On Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013, the Elgin Police Department arrested Ryan Hukill, a 21 year old resident of the 500 block of Redtail Ridge in Elgin, for his involvement in a burglary at a police officer’s home.
Hukill allegedly burglarized the officer’s home, taking a set of the officer’s handcuffs from the home during the incident. The burglary occurred in the 500 block of Redtail Ridge and was interrupted at approximately 8:15 pm by the officer coming home for dinner during his patrol shift. The officer, a 17-year veteran of the department, was working the afternoon patrol shift when he came home for lunch break and found a window screen missing and a light on in the second floor apartment. The officer was aware that no one should have been in his home at the time and then observed Hukill in a 2nd floor bedroom window. Hukill observed the officer and immediately fled through the front door of the condominium building where he was taken into custody by the officer. Officers located evidence from the burglary in the apartment to include a gun safe that had damage indicating someone was trying to pry it open. No weapons were taken. Hukill admitted to his involvement in the burglary of his neighbor’s home.
Hukill was charged in Kane County with one felony count of burglary. He appeared at bond call this morning where he was sent to the Kane County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 bond (10% to apply) while awaiting a 9:00 am hearing on January 17th in the Kane County Judicial Center.
