Man Arrested After Biting Police Officer

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A 20-year-old Rockford man was arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at police and bit an officer.

Around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, Rockford Police were called to Central and Sherman Ave. for a man with a gun. The caller said a black man wearing a white shirt was walking toward the park and had a gun in his waistband.

Police spotted 20-year-old Davante Turner and when officers made contact with him, he took off running. Officers chased Turner into back yards in the 900 Block of N. Independence Avenue. Police say when an officer caught up to Turner, Turner pointed a black handgun at the officer. Police tell us the officer tackled Turner and wrestled the gun away from him. Other officers helped to assist in the arrest and during the struggle, Turner is said to have bit an officer in the arm.

Turner was arrested on the following charges:

-Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
-Felony Resisting Arrest
-No Firearm Owners ID
-Aggravated Assault
-City of Rockford Failure to Appear Warrant
-Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer.
