Man Arrested After 6 Hour Standoff With Rockford Police

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Everyone is okay after a Rockford man takes his step-father hostage, sparking a six hour standoff with police.

It started just before midnight on Saturday at 410 South Day Street. Police say Junior Hinrichs,29, was upset over the death of his mother, got into a fight with his girlfriend and a friend, then pulled out a long-barreled gun. He told them to leave the house, they did, but Hinrichs’ stepfather was still in the house. Around six in the morning, Hinrichs let his step father go, and then left the house about half an hour later. He was taken to the hospital for a medical and psychological evaluation, and then taken to jail. He’s charged with not having a valid gun license.
