UPDATE: Rockford Police Looking for Suspects in Hit and Run

UPDATE: Rockford Police are still looking for the men or women who fatally hit a pedestrian and kept driving.

40-year-old Stacey Lawson was killed around 10 p.m. Saturday night. Officers say he was crossing Auburn Street near Avon and was likely run over twice by two separate cars. There is no word yet on what either vehicle looked like.

An autopsy has been completed by the Winnebago County Coroner's office. The preliminary cause of death is blunt trauma of the head, chest, and abdominal region due to a motor vehicle collision. Toxicology testing will be available in about two weeks.

UPDATE: An autopsy is still pending for a man found dead in the road in Rockford Saturday night.

The Winnebago County Coroner's Office says around 10:50 p.m., it was contacted about a 40-year-old man found dead in the 3100 block of Auburn Street.

The death remains under investigation by Rockford Police. Toxicology tests will be available in about two weeks.

FROM THE ROCKFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT -- At around 10:38 pm on 07/06/2013, Rockford Police Officers were sent to the area of 3100 Auburn Street in reference to a traffic crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male lying in the street. The male was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the male is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Investigation has revealed that the deceased male was struck by a vehicle traveling west bound on Auburn Street. The vehicle and its occupant(s) left the scene prior to the arrival of the police.
