ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Durand boy dealing with a very adult problem will soon get to go where anyone could be a kid again.
Three-and-a-half-year-old Grant and his family were at the Chicago-Rockford International Airport this morning for a special send-off celebration. Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Allegiant Airlines, Grant and his family were able to fly from Rockford to Orlando, for a free week-long vacation. Last spring Grant was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Grant's wish granter says he has been looking forward to this day for a very long time.
"They were so excited, I made a countdown three weeks ago for them where they got to take off a little chain off every day. So the kids got to see, because they are young so they go to visualize how many days were left, so they were super excited, I went and visited them last week and they were ready to go."
Make-A-Wish grants a wish every 40 minutes and since 1980 the foundation has granted more than 225,000 wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses.
