MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) – Some Machesney Park residents will start paying a little more to turn the heat and lights on this month.
A new 5% utility tax on gas and electric went into effect today. We’re told it averages out to an extra $8 a month depending on your income. You may remember the village approved the tax last month, despite Mayor Tom Strickland’s being publically against the move. The tax is expected to generate nearly a million dollars a year for the village.
