MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- Neighbors looking to spruce up their homes may be able to get help from the state to complete their home improvement projects.

The deadline to apply for a forgivable home improvement load is Friday, July 25, 2014. The program is through the HomeForward Program and is only open for neighbors who live in Machesney Park. The HomeForward Program was created as a two year, $168,000 grant from the Illinois Housing Development Authority. Loans of up to $40,000 are available for necessary projects including new siding, windows, and roofing. Applicants have to meet income requirements and other eligibility criteria. There will be a lottery drawing to choose the recipients on Monday, August 4, 2014. To get more information on applying for a loan, call the Village of Machesney Park at (815) 877-5432.
