LOVES PARK (WIFR) – Police and Hazmat squads are searching for what they call a “suspicious package” near Hope and Anchor on N. 2nd Street. Right now, homes are being evacuated near the business.

We're told the Winnebago County and Rockford Police Bomb Squad just sent in a robot to look for a suspicious package inside the Hope and Anchor Pub.

Investigators say no threats were made but they do have someone in custody. Loves Park Police Chief Jim Puckett says the man is only a person of interest at this point. We're told he's a frequent customer of Hope and Anchor Pub and the owner has had problems with this man in the past.

One woman who works at a nearby business says she's impressed with the police response.

Right now, North 2nd is shut down between Pearl Avenue and Beach Street.

This is still a developing story and we’ll continue to bring you the very latest as we learn more.
