Lottery Winner Waits 10 Months to Claim $200K Prize

DEKALB (WIFR) -- “I don’t like to rush into anything,” said Jacob Skala when he claimed the $200,000 lottery prize he won ten months ago, “I’m a patient person.”

Skala hit the jackpot playing Little Lotto, now called Lucky Day Lotto, when his $1 Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers – 16 – 21 – 24 – 27 – 28 – in the February 13, 2012, drawing.

“I checked my ticket at the store back in February. When I realized I had won, I just slowly walked out and went home,” Skala told Lottery officials. He said from there he went to his bank and put the ticket in a safety deposit box where it has remained for nearly ten months. After sharing some of his winnings with family, Skala plans to go right back to his bank to deposit the rest.

The winning ticket was purchased at Jewel Food Store located on Sycamore Road in DeKalb. The store received a $2,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.

Jackpots for Lucky Day Lotto start at $100,000. Drawings are seven days a week with over 35,000 winners every day. That’s over 200,000 winners in Illinois every week! The Lucky Day Lotto drawing takes place every night at 9:22 p.m. For more information, please visit
