BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- A local teenager is in critical condition after a gang related shooting in Belvidere. Investigators found several guns and ammunition at the scene.
18-year-old Harold Switzer is charged with the shooting, and could spend up to 15 years behind bars. He was taken into custody last night.
Police believe Switzer shot the 18-year-old victim after a fight in the 500 block of West Menomonie Street in Belvidere. This happened at around 10 p.m. Investigators say the victim is fighting for his life at Saint Anthony Medical Center. 23 News will bring you the latest developments on this story as soon as they become available.

I feel terrible for the victim I am sure he didnt know to what extent this fight was before he got there. But he obviously knew there was trouble if he drove from another town to pick this person up. He should stay away from these people. Guns are for protection. If they arent supposed to be used to protect yourself they shouldnt be legal. and the law was called They werent there when the shooters dad was STABBED in the shoulder by your so called INNOCENT victim.

The shooter may have been a good kid but so was the victim U personally know him also. If the shooter was being tormented it was by another individual, like the one who called the victim for a ride. The law should have been involved a long time ago and maybe this just may have not happened. Everyone thinks they can always handle things on their own so lets get guns??? DUMB. Just want it understood that the victim was innocent also. He did not know all this was going on and when he got there he was attacked so he did what any natural person would do and that's respond. This shows to all that you should choose wisely who your friends are. The victim was not there to act as in a gang as maybe the others were. CALL THE LAW FIRST

I personally know the young man who was the shooter! He was a good kid! He took pride in his family! He was a honest kid who worked for what he had! I believe there are 2 sides to every story and that his story will be told. My prayers are with him and his family. I hope that more information is forth coming and that neighbors and family speek on his behalf so everyone knows that he was trying to protect what was his.
