ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A local organization responsible for transporting children daily is making sure kids are buckled in safely.
Help at Home, an organization that helps foster children get from doctor appointments and family visits, just received over a dozen new car seats from the Winnebago coalition and SwedishAmerican Hospital. The group taught drivers how to install various types of car seats specified for different weight and sizes. Organizers say drivers typically don't know which direction to face an infant's seat when traveling.
Penny Lentz, SafeKids Coalition, "We want them rear facing. They're much safer that way. It takes that strain off their neck and head muscles. So, keeping them rear facing is much safer, and not worrying about the legs being too long and kicking the back of the seat. Kids very rarely ride with their legs out staight."
If you would like to know if your child’s car seat is put in correctly, you can call the SwedishAmerican EMS office at (815) 489-6088 for an appointment.
