Local Women Business Leaders to be Recognized at Rockford Chamber Expo & Luncheon

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Women in Business Expo and Luncheon to recognize local businesses that are owned and managed by women. The event includes a business expo followed by the luncheon with a keynote address by Kate Bensen, President/CEO of The Chicago Network (TCN).

The event will be held on Thursday, June 19 at Cliffbreakers Riverside Resort, 700 W. Riverside Blvd. The expo will be held from 10 a.m. – Noon. The luncheon, keynote address and awards will be held from noon-1:30 p.m.

The Woman Business Owner of the Year, Woman Manager of the Year and Woman Business Leader of Tomorrow awards will be presented during the luncheon. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, June 6 and forms can be found at rockfordchamber.com. Winners are chosen based on characteristics such as leadership, professional achievements, community involvement, candidacy and future goals.

Additionally, the ATHENAPowerLink Award recipient will be announced. ATHENAPowerLink is a national program designed to help women-owned businesses expand profitably through the use of professional advisory panels. The 2014 Rockford ATHENAPowerLink Award is sponsored by PNC.

Bensen joined TCN in April 2010 as Executive Director and became its President and CEO in 2013. Prior to joining the Network, Bensen led the nonprofit capacity building practice for Conlon Public Strategies for two years, using her broad-based experience in organizational development, growth and positioning to assist clients with strategic planning, visibility, governance, board development and fundraising matters. She also provided strategic counsel to clients on government relations matters.

TCN is an organization of Chicago’s most distinguished professional women. Founded in 1979, TCN creates empowering relationships for women leaders that enable its members to increase their impact on their organizations and the community at large through peer networking, mutual support and issue awareness. Their more than 400 members are the leading women of Chicago’s business, professional, cultural, nonprofit and educational communities.

Approximately 55 businesses and 500 attendees will participate in the expo and luncheon.
