Local Volunteers Leave to Help East Coast Before Hurricane Sandy

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- States on the East Coast are preparing for the worst as Hurricane Sandy makes its way there. In Illinois, Com-Ed crews have already left to go help, as well as a local Red Cross volunteer.

"I like helping people, just being there to give anybody a hand that they need," says Greg Larson.

Larson is a member of the Rock River Chapter of the Red Cross. He left Saturday morning around 8am in an emergency response vehicle loaded with supplies. Larson is headed to Baltimore, Maryland, with another Stateline volunteer from Dixon. The pair has a 13 hour drive ahead of them. Once in Maryland, they will get their orders on where they’re needed the most. They will be gone about three weeks.
