ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A local organization is helping those in need get some warm clothing for this winter.
Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful helped gather donations today for its fall clothing drive. Volunteers helped unload bags of clothing, bedding and some other household items that were donated at Hilander grocery stores. The clothing will be given to people in third-world countries and to those in need in the U.S.
Vicki Swanson, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Volunteer, says, "If they are helping us here and participating, with our clothing drive, we're not only keeping it out of the landfill but we are helping those in need."
During the spring and summer clothing drives this year each collected more than 57,000 pounds of clothing and since the drive started in 1999 they've collected about three million pounds of clothing.
