ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A local organization that formed to fight for voter's rights is celebrating a major milestone today
The League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford is celebrating their 90th anniversary. The bi-partisan volunteer organization started up in the 1920's in support of female voters. 90 years later, members say the league's success comes from constant communicating with politicians on important issues.
Diane Cushing, League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford "It's just wonderful that an organization like this, a non-partisan political organization that studies issues. Not just come up with an idea and decides to support it. We study it. We argue about it. And we come to consensus about our support for an issue."
League members also say that one of their biggest goals is to promote voter registration.
