Local Orchards Faring Better this Year

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Curran’s Apple Orchard owner Pat Curran tells us he’s optimistic about this year’s cherry and apple crop. Three out of the last five years, there’s been a late freeze in the Stateline, which decimated the cherry and apple crops. Last year, Curran estimates he was only able to sell or use about 10%.

This year, Curran says he’s in much better shape.

“I think this first, ‘normal’ year that we’ve had in the last four years. And so this year, cross your fingers, we hope we don’t have any freezes between now and the end of May. We’re going to have a good crop,” said Pat Curran.

Curran’s Orchard will open for cherry picking at the end of June and apple picking at the end of August.
