BELOIT (WIFR) – An eye-opening experience is what the CEO of Beloit Health Systems is calling his 10-day trip to Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere.
CEO Greg Britton says he used his 20 years of experience in healthcare to improve Haiti’s medical system.
He tells us his days were spent watching how the clinics operate, looking over how they treat their patients and use their available resources. He says he’s now writing a report to send back to Haitian clinics.
Britton says his report includes how they can better test for disease and utilize extra lab space for diagnostics. He also says they need to start doing X-rays, so he’s showing the clinics how to set up medical imaging rooms. The clinics also want a surgery room, so Britton is giving them a list of medical supplies and equipment.
"I asked the people that I interviewed, what is your vision for this clinic in the future? They all are very dedicated. The administrator as well as the medical director said I have dedicated my life to this clinic,” Britton said.
Britton says at the end of the day it comes down to getting enough money to fund these changes. He says the clinic’s medical board needs to sit down with their politicians to find a way to get the money they need.
Britton says if the clinics are able to get the proper funding, they should start seeing changes in about a year.
