ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- More than 65 local kids teamed up with over 20 police officers for the 17th annual Shop with a Cop event.
Officers joined the kids around the store picking out toys and games they wanted for the holidays. The program helps under-privileged kids have a brighter Christmas and get to spend around $150 each. Officers say they find holiday joy just seeing the smiles on all the kids' faces and helping their families out.
Officer Ronaldo Gallardo, Rockford Police, says, "It just helps that these families are being reached and they're not being left out. And there is hope and we're one avenue of delivering that hope."
The gifts come from donations the Rockford police raised over the past year.
