Local Group Offers to Recycle Christmas Trees

STATELINE (WIFR) -- As many people get ready to take down their Christmas decorations, one local group is giving them the option of recycling their trees rather than tossing them in a landfill.

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful has 13 collection sites for anyone who wants to recycle their unwanted Christmas tree.

Each year, the organization receives more than 36,000 trees, which are then turned into mulch.

The sites will be open through January 15th.

Collection sites:

Don Schmid Youth Sports Center
Blackhawk Park
Levings Lake
Andrews Park
Gambino Park
Alpine Park
Pecatonica Wetlands Forest Preserve
Baumann Park
Valley View Farm
Rockton Boat Ramp Parking Lot
Williams Tree Farm
Machesney Park Village Hill
Martin Park
