Local Emergency Responders Going to Maryland for Disaster Training

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Dozens of local emergency responders will head to Maryland on Sunday to train for disasters, it's comes from a federal grant the Rockford Fire Department has been eyeing for years.

Rockford Fire Chief Derek Bergsten says 80 people, everyone from reps from ComEd to the mayor will train together next week to prepare for actual emergencies.

"I think it's really prominent now with all the tornadoes you see in the last few days, and the effect those have on the community. We're better prepared if a disaster strikes our area," Bergsten said.
