ROCKFORD (WIFR) – When it comes to rankings, we have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation and now those new to the workforce are trying to get a jump start on a career.

Rockford University and Rock Valley College organized a job fair at the University. Students talked to employers about jobs and internships with companies like Ingersoll Machine Tools and the YMCA.

"So many years ago, you could go out and have a job at the end of the week or by the end of that day. And now, it's kind hard. For some people, it's taken them a couple of months to find a job, I'm hoping I'll have a job within a couple of weeks,” said Jennifer Barsema.
The students says she’s been a CNA for the last 16 years.
